August

Under the last sun

There are flowers that break
Out in the wind there are stripped birds
Shuddered & huddled inside wrinkled
Elbows of greyskin gums

Under the last sun of our season

The perforations that joined us
In silent space come open
Softly as summering eyes &
Our dreams –

All midwinter
You kissed the ice from my face
